Forecastle Preview: The Avett Brothers

Rounding out the Forecastle Headliners is The Avett Brothers. The Avett Brothers make for a perfect Forecastle band, carrying influences of folk, rock and maybe even a little punk, these guys transcend any single identifiable genre to blend the lot of them to act as a complete cross-section of the entire festival. The Avett Brothers have played Louisville a couple times, including last year’s Coyotes show and 2007’s Waterfront Wednesday. These guys are exactly the type f band that Louisville and the WFPK crowd goes nuts over, and this show should feed everyone’s craving.

  1. They should have put both Avett Bros. and Black Keys both on Friday night. I might actually consider dropping $101.50 for a pair of one day tickets then, but as it is now, no way. You know the undercard is just going to be a bunch of local bands.

Besides, both those bands have played in Louisville in the last year, and several times before that. I don’t know who is going to pay to go to Forecastle besides Widespread Panic fans.

  2. I don’t really know what to say about Forecastle this year. I want to see the Festival succeed, but I fear this year’s show is going to be too big for the Forecastle Crew to contain. And of course I would like to see Avett Brothers & Black Keys …but I’ve seen Panic. In an arena. It was a hi-fi show to say the least…And I just don’t see how the Belvedere is going to contain a Widespread-sized-crowd either.
Hopefully they’ll get the sound system under control because I couldn’t even hear Del last year. I agree that Forecastle 2009 will be lacking in the locals too.
