Halfway to Forecastle Announced

JK has announced the details of this year’s Halfway to Forceastle mini-festival which is set to take place on Saturday, January 17th at the new and incredibly exciting venue, Gill Holland’s The Green Building.

This year’s lineup includes performances by:

The show will also feature an appearance by the winner of the JanSport Battle of the Bands competition, which drew over 1800 entries from across the United States, for a chance to perform on the main stage of the 2009 Forecastle Festival, July 10th – 12th at the Riverfront Belvedere.

Buffalo Killers was one of the most talked about bands of this year’s Cincinnati MidPoint Music Festival, and have had a big year touring with Black Crowes.  DJ 2nd Nature has been putting together a whole series of cuts related to Louisville-based artists MMJ and Ben Sollee.  The Protomen put on one of the craziest shows of last year’s Forecastle and it was at the opening party at Glassworks.  OK DeeJays and Squeeze-bot have both been all over the Louisville scene and round the lineup out nicely.

Tickets are extremely limited due to the capacity of The Green Building, and will go on sale Saturday, November 15th exclusively via ear X-tacy Records. They are $12 in advance, $15 day or show. All ages. For complete lineup and ticket information, please

Dominating thte art component will be an exhibition from Julia Christensen titled Big Box Reuse. Big Box Reuse is a photography exhibit showing 75,000 miles worth of the many practical reuses of abandoned bix box superstores that initially seemed suited for one function, including churches, retail outlets, charter schools, courthouses, senior centers and even a spam museum.

The activism lineup will include six Kentucky environmental organizations ranging from The Sierra Club to Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, presenting interactive, educational exhibits for attendees to enjoy.

A portion of this year’s proceeds will benefit efforts to establish the first Lower Ohio Riverkeeper Chapter, a project inspired by Riverkeeper attorney and last year’s Forecastle keynote speaker Robert. F. Kennedy Jr to protect and preserve our nation’s waterways. The project is being overseen by The Kentucky Waterways Alliance, a citizen’s organization dedicated to protecting and restoring Kentucky’s waterways through advocacy and grassroots awareness.
