R.I.P. LeRoi Moore

Last night, LeRoi Moore, saxophonist of the fan favorite Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly of complications stemming from injuries he sustained in an ATV accident. Those same injuries prevented LeRoi Moore from recently appearing in Louisville for the concert at Slugger Field.  Moore was 46.

Moore was injured on June 30, 2008 in an ATV accident on his farm outside Charlottesville, Virginia, breaking several ribs and puncturing a lung. In tribute at last night’s show, Dave Matthews said “We all had some bad news today….our good friend LeRoi Moore passed on and gave his ghost up today and we will miss him forever.”

Throughout college, as I have mentioned before, I was a huge jam band fan, and Dave Matthews was at the very top of the list. These guys represented an important part of my life musically, and just knowing he was missing from the Louisville stage was strange enough (and I wasn’t even there), but to know that he is truly gone is heart-wrenching. LeRoi more has been a fan favorite for years & he will be truly missed.  Today, those of us who have move on from it, let’s not pretend we didn’t use to be a fan.  Take the time today to give DMB another spin, in remembrance.
