Ben Sollee: Paste Magazine’s “The Best of What’s Next”

Ben Sollee is featured in September’s edition of Paste Magazine as on of the “Best of What’s Next”, and he’s in good company. Other artists featured in the article include The Bridges, Liam Finn, Islands, Wild Sweet Orange, Los Campesinos, Jamie Lidell, Black Kids and others. I think this article says a lot about the state of music in Louisville at present. Of the best of what’s next, one is from Louisville, and several others have performed here within the last year.  For many people, until recently, Ben Sollee had only been another member of Bela Fleck’s bad, The Sparrow Quartet.  However, in the last few months, NPR put Ben Sollee on the list of Top 10 Unknown Artists of the Year, just before the release of his debut album, Learning to Bend.  Since then, the buzz hasn’t stopped growing, and while Ben might have second guessed his decision to sing about Kanye, in the end, the exposure couldn’t have hurt and (most) all publicity is good…and for Ben….well, I’m just excited to see what’s next…
