Throw Me The Statue Finds a Lexington Venue for 3/31

With the downfall of Lexington’s Icehouse, bands their promoter had scheduled have been looking for alternate venues.  Throw Me The Statute was one of those bands.   We asked/begged The Dame to fill the void and they assured us that they were trying to accommodate TMTS for the March 31st show.  Today, they let us know that THROW ME THE STATUTE WILL BE PLAYING AT THE DAME ON THE 31st WITH DELTA SPIRIT!!!!  If you live in Louisville, this show will be worth the trip.  If you are in Lexington, there is no reason to pass up this opportunity.

TMTS’ album, Moonbeams, was released last year by Baskerville Hill Records and was re-released last month by Secretly Canadian Records (Bodies of Water, Catfish Haven, Jens Lekman…). Moonbeams is a great album that doesn’t have a bad track (the question to be debated is whether or not it should be considered a ‘08 album for the “Best of…”).  Both Cory and I had the album as one of February’s best.  I’m also a pretty big fan of the album cover (which apparently pitchfork considers in its album analysis). “Lolita” is the song that brought my attention to the album, but you could easily find a different favorite. “About to Walk” is a captivating song with distant vocals that you may, upon first listen, think too much is going on, but grow to appreciate. If you are more into indie-pop playfulness, with a catchy chorus then listen to “This Is How We Kiss” first. Regardless of your favorite song, this show will be a great opportunity to catch a very talented band on the way up.

Delta Spirit was already scheduled to play at The Dame on the 31st.  They played here in Louisville at PHT with Dr. Dog last year and, in my opinion, stole the show.  They are coined folk, but they are too dynamic to label.  One review stated that Delta Spirit has “more in common with the dirty haired, dirty fingernailed folk groups of the nascent years than they do any of their contemporaries. They’re suited for reminiscent hopefulness and the gracefully youthful fusion of hostility and all-encompassing passion for all things that can set a smile ablaze or turn the hairs on arms and backs of necks into little beds of nails at the flick of a switch.”  Check out the song “Streetwalker” below and see what you think.

Port O’Brien, who have been touring with Delta Spirit, will also be playing.  They have a folky rock sound with a hint of pop…exactly what you would think an opener for Delta Spirit would sound like.

The show starts at 9pm and COSTS $6 bucks!!!
