Man Man came to Louisville’s Headliners Music Hall on March 20th. I’ve mentioned it before, but being at a Man Man show is much like what I imagine being dropped into an Ape pit at the zoo would be like…and similar noises are made too.
Honus Honus & crew have a stage presence that is entirely unique. First off, Honus Honus & Pow Pow face one another with the rest of the crew behind them, making for a an almost cooperative battle set-up like you might find in some place like Howl at the Moon, but the similarities stop there. Adorned in face paint and all white, the guys bring gypsy to the stage, jumping, yelping, running falling, banging on anything that can be banged, and all in a controlled chaos.
Fake mustaches abounded around the crowd, whether painted on or stuck to their faces. The crowd was energetic for a Louisville show, and was surprisingly familiar with the songs, including the new album Rabbit Habbits, much of which they played. That said, they’ve been playing the songs from the new album for some time now, including when I last saw them in Lexington several months ago, so for the avid Man Man fan, it’s not exactly a shocker.
As for the show itself, they say a picture is worth a thousand words…so by my count, there is a pretty big essay after the break…
For probably my best collection of photos yet and set list…
