THANKS: Backseat Sandbar’s The Incident at the Pour Haus

Friday night was the one year anniversary of Backseat Sandbar’s first post & to celebrate the occasion the Pour Haus was host to The Instruction, The Zero Element, Skyscraper Stereo & Azns n Bnzs, all of whom just shredded the night & made it a party to remember (save for the effect of the PBR). Throwing our first party, we had no idea what to expect, but I feel that I can come away with it feeling that (1) it was an awesome and successful night, and (2) we have a lot to learn about throwing parties.

With that in mind, we’d like to take a moment out to THANK everyone who came to the show, friends, fans and readers of our blog, fans and friends of the bands, loyal patrons to the Pour Haus, and kids generally in the music scene, and both of our girlfriends for putting up with the the time we invest into this blog. However, none of the night would have been possible without the help of so many people. First, we’ve got to thank Ace, Robin, Clint & Dominic at The Pour Haus….they made the show as easy to organize as to show up for, from the free admission, to guarding the door, to the discounted drinks which we bought by the 30 pack. We’d like to thank each of the bands for bringing their friends, for playing an incredible show and making that party so damn successful in terms of attendance and fun. Essentially, the point of Backseat Sandbar is to promote the music that we’d want to see live and hear, and thanks to each of these bands, this party was exactly the type of party we’d want to go see…exemplifying the very point of why we’re doing this. We’d like to particularly thank Wes, Rahman, Jawon, and Chris, whom we’ve befriended over the last year, for convincing their respective band mates to do this party for free. Lastly, we’d like to give special thanks to Chris & Andrew of Azns n Bnzs who played a sick set, and caused me to end up with cake all over my face and in my hair and up my nose. Thanks for the cake guys….that was awesome…

If you missed the show, I think you’re likely to get a chance to see each of these bands again soon. Several people in attendance were the people you find putting on shows and promoting around town, and more than one time I had someone come up to me to ask about helping to arrange another show with this band or that. Perhaps the best thing about the night was the cross-section of music that resulted in a lot of people hearing bands they might not otherwise have seen. Countless of you asked about finding out more about these bands or getting their album. I couldn’t tell you how many demo CDs I could have sold on the behalf of each of these bands..and when I say that I mean every single artist we had playing…I had several people from unrelated groups of friends ask me about each individual band and where they could see them next (of course, read the blog was the only real answer). I was elated to find the members of each band so strongly digging the sound of every other band playing….standing in the audience and talking about arranging future shows together. We accidentally reunited old high school friends, we talked to a cat sporting the Zach Morris cell phone, we each bought 45 beers at a bar (haven’t done that before), but most of all, we had a great time.

Again, the turnout was great and the party was massively fun, but I’m sure we can go bigger and get more of Louisville out, so expect to see more events like this popping up now and then….
