Grizzly Bear @ 930 Listening Room - 8/2

Critically acclaimed and indie kid darlings Grizzly Bear are coming to the 930 Listening Room on August 2nd as they “rest” between Radiohead tour dates. Grizzly Bear have come by recently, hitting the MusicNOW! festival in Cincinnati. These guys present a lo-fi rock sound with incredible attention to detail in some instances and indistinct mutations in others. Their 2006 Yellow House made seemingly every Best Of 2006 list there was, and with good reason. One year later, Grizzly managed to follow up with an EP equally adored by fans and critics alike. In many respects, this may be one of the best Louisville shows of the year & I can only hope more of the mid-level indie artists like Grizzly Bear start realizing that Louisville has something to offer them….I think the 930 is the perfect venue for these kinds of bands….

Hmm, I wonder how this will play out, what with the recent publicity about Sojourn church & The 930.

I know there is a loud minority speaking out against Sojourn, but seriously! It’s Grizzly Bear! And no one is standing up in the middle of the shows asking you to give your life to Jesus Christ. There is also no one bringing in shows better than The 930. I’d even say in the history of this city no one has been on a roll as well as the 930.

You and I seem to be on the same page. I disagree very much with Sojourn’s views (primarily on sexuality and gender issues), but as you say they aren’t proselytizing at shows, and they’re doing some quite good things in the community.

I’m just thinking of Ed Droste being gay, and whether the band knows or cares about Sojourn’s ideologies.
