It is that time already…WFPK is back with Waterfront Wednesdays!!! Throughout the summer WFPK will host free concerts on the last Wednesday of the month at Waterfront Park. The first line-up is already set. On April 23rd, The Whigs, Wild Sweet Orange and Griffin House will kick-off the series. I missed The Whigs when they came to The Dame earlier this year, so I get a second chance to see them (playing their new album, Mission Control, just released on Jan. 22). Birmingham’s Wild Sweet Orange has the feel of Drive By-Truckers, so if you liked their rock show, their sound will be up your ally. As for Nashville’s Griffin House, you probably have heard one of their songs, even if you didn’t realize it. They are more low key than the other two, but still fall in line with the folk rock style of Wild Sweet Orange (The Whigs are the odd ball of the three).
Stage Times
Griffin House- 6pm
Wild Sweet Orange- 7:30pm
The Whigs- 9pm
Sample
The Whigs- Right Hand on My Heart
Wild Sweet Orange- Wrestle with God
Griffin House- Dance With Me

While not part of the Waterfront Wednesday series, WFPK will also be hosting Brett Dennen and Mason Jennings on April 30th at Waterfront Park as part of Derby Week Riverfest. Brett Dennen was just here last month playing the Hard Rock Cafe and I HIGHLY recommend checking out his show. You probably already know enough about Mason Jennings. This will be a great show and I don’t think it will cost you a thing. Scott Miller will also be playing. The show starts at 7pm.
Brett Dennen- Ain’t No Reason
Mason Jennings- Ballad for My One True Love

While I’m on the subject of WFPK, their pledge drive is going on right now, so to support the free shows like the ones above and to show your appreciation for all the great music they play on 91.9…you can click the banner below to go to the donation page. Every bit counts.
