Laura Veirs - Ocean Night Song
Laura Veirs - Cluck Old Hen

For the press release for each artist,

Laura Veirs is an interesting story, offering music lessons out of her Oregon home. Anyone sign up yet? On her third Nonesuch release, Saltbreakers, Laura remains tantalized by the mysteries and marvels of the natural world, filling her work with images, both precise and poetic, of the ocean and the stars. But she digs even deeper this time into the vagaries of human nature, transforming the turbulence of her own life, as well as her concerns about the hair-trigger state of the world at large, into a collection of songs distinguished as much by their emotional urgency as by their often astonishing musical inventiveness … A fairy tale-like quality is certain there, but older, more knowing ears will find something even more engrossing in these songs: the sound of a real life unfolding between the crashing sea and the twinkling stars. - Billions

Liam Finn: Already the odds-on favorite for debut artist of the year in his native New Zealand, twenty-three-year-old indie wunderkind Liam Finn is turning his attention to the U.S. Finn wrote all of I’ll Be Lightening’s fourteen songs, and plays most of the instruments on the album, a fact driven home in powerful fashion by his jaw-dropping live shows. The Sydney Morning Herald described one recent performance: “He constantly and inventively loops his guitar parts before jumping on to a drum kit and flailing away with manic energy and skill.” Layering on bass loops, and the occasional Theremin line as well, Finn can take a song from primal, solitary guitar riff to bracing wall of sound. Singlehandedly. - Billions
