Matt Pond PA & Carbon/Silicon @ 20th Century Theatre – 4/9

Matt Pond PA is touring with Carbon/Silicon, and is finishing up in Cincy. I always love seeing the first or last show of a tour. Matt Pond PA is from Philly (now NYC) & plays an indie chamber pop sort of melancholic sound nicely incorporating a violin & cello. He’s been compared to everyone from early REM to the Replacements to DCFC to Cat Power. Since 1998, Matt Pond PA has put out 8 albums, so he’s been a very busy man, and I guess he has had time to let several influences work their way into his albums.

Should be interesting to see Matt Pond PA with Carbon/Silicon. C/S comprises Mick Jones (The Clash) and Tony James (Generation X), thus clearly playing an edgier kind of punk-influenced rock. Although a few years on, these guys still know how to make good music, and have embraced the digital age. Originally they started out by using a lot of samples played from their laptop during the show, and have been known to give away their music for free digital distribution, such as their first recorded track “MPFree”. C/S will be playing at this years SXSW also.
