Murder Mystery, Scourge of the Sea @ The Dame – 1/19

Funny where you find things out sometimes. I remember first reading about the incident where the girl had her legs cut off by the ride at Kentucky Kingdom on Digg. Well, tonight I found out about New York’s Murder Mystery playing the Dame not by any local resources, but thanks to 5 Acts. Murder Mystery is a 4-piece from New York consisting of Jeremy Coleman, his sister and his two best friends. They’re out promoting their new album Are You Ready for the Heartache Cause Here it Comes. I read somewhere once that Jeremy’s vocals….and our friends at We Listen For You will appreciate this….are much in the vein of Stephin Merritt or Matt Berninger from The National. That said, their sound bounces around several subgenres of indie rock looking for some kind of style that fits. Find out for yourself whether they’ve accomplished that just yet by going to the show.

Also playing that night, and headlining for that matter is local favorites Scourge of the Sea, which includes Dickie Haydon from another local favorite, Petticoat, Petticoat. Also playing their first show ever is Some Other Meanness, who describe themselves as being audibly influenced by Son Volt, Whiskeytown, Centro-Matic, and plan to start recording later next month.
