PostSecret.com in Lexington – Nov. 5-20 (11-5 daily)

I have actively read PostSecret.com since early 2005 when I stumbled upon it (thanks to Firefox’s StumbleUpon) and fell in love with the deeply emotional messages of love, hate, envy depression, guilt, happiness and any and all other emotions beautifully crafted into these postcards. Of course, the website then turned into a book. What’s more important though is the catharthis these postcards have served for the writers, and for the readers to know that they are not alone. PostSecret.com has worked closely with Hopeline, a Suicide Hotline (1-800-Suicide) to ensure that the persons who need help are getting it.

PostSecret.com doesn’t make its archives available, but you can see most of the archives HERE through Archives.org.

Frank Warren, founder of PostSecret.com is coming to Lexington to speak. Below, they say he’s speaking on the 7th, but on PostSecret.com he advertises speaking on the 14th, so hopefully we can find out the correct date.

Anyway, here’s what they have to say about the event:

What started as a community art project in Maryland has turned into a world wide phenomenon known as PostSecret. The concept was simple. Hand out blank post cards with a return address on the back and encourage participants to anonymously share their secrets. Soon the cards started coming back to creator Frank Warren–each one more intricately hand crafted than the next. You can now see these cards on an updated blog, in any of Warren’s three books, and for a limited time, over 200 authentic cards from the collection will be on display in the Rasdall Gallery in the UK Student Center. Paired with this will be UK’s own version of the art project with student’s cards being displayed in the gallery along side the exhibit. This event will take place from November 5-November 20, 11am-5pm daily.

Create your own card and become part of the exhibit! You can mail them in to 203 Student Center, Lexington, Ky, or there are drop boxes set up in the gallery as well as the Student Activities Board office. Cards will be hung each night.

The Facebook event page can be found HERE. For more information, please contact Cultural Arts Director, Callie Hanks, at 859-257-8867 or by e-mail at SABCulturalArts@yahoo.com.

  1. I’m glad you could use my PostSecret. (P.S., I’ve found out where my life is going.)
