Ben Nichols & his boys are coming back to Louisville’s Headliners Nov. 8. I had the chance to see Lucero last year at Lexington’s Dame & while the crowd consisted of a lot of stereotypical fraternity meatheads (note: I was in a fraternity, but I mean the STEREOTYPE), the show was amazing! The energy was very high. Actually, my girlfriend got me into Lucero, a southern rock-ish band but I have a hard time classifying them as that as well. They’re a rock band with some southern rock influence. Ben’s voice is the result of years of fine tuning using the harshest cigarettes he could find (or so I can only imagine) and is the type of voice that truly leaves an impression on you.
The last show in Louisville with the full band was with Murder by Death (or maybe that was 2 shows ago). This time around its Bobby Bare Jr. and Whiskey & Co. Headliners gets hot for a high intensity show like this, but last time it was the smoke that got to everyone & as that is no longer a problem, the show should be all around enjoyable.
If you’ve not listened to them, decide for yourself, but I suspect you’ll enjoy the show…
